Riding mountain bikes has it's risks, but that doesn't mean we need to take risks in order to progress.
We encourage you to always stay safe! progression isn't achieved by being brave, it's achieved by taking things step by step and building your skills to a level you feel capable and confident to commit.
We advise you to always think before you act and trust your instinct. Remember that the goal is to have fun and to be able to ride tomorrow as well.
Here are some tips to increase your safety:
- Perform a bike check before each ride or practice session. This should include Air pressure in the tires, both brakes, bolts and axels, pedals and crank. If your bike isn't 100% safe, fix it first.
- Always wear protective gear! A helmet and gloves (preferably long gloves) are a must, knee and elbow pads are highly recommended.
- Fear level- be mindful of your stress. if there is a scale from 1 to 10, 1 being super chill and 10 being terrified- if you're at 8/9/10- don't go for it. If you're at 6/7- if you have the needed skills- that's where progression is made.
- Know the trail. If you don't know the trail and there are technical sections we recommend you stop on the side of the trail, leave the bike where it's not on the trail, take a look and assess the section.
- Feeling tired? that's exactly when it's time to take a step back.
- Respect the trail and its conditions. The weather and the trail can change rapidly, respect nature and try to be as prepared as possible for unplanned situations.
